Application Process

1. Complete the online application via NursingCAS.

Academic and Professional Requirements

In addition to all of the general requirements for admission to all DNP specialties, described in the most current version of the Loyola University Student Handbook, the Nurse Anesthesia Program additionally requires:

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program with at least a 3.0 GPA (where A = 4.0). Official transcripts for all college courses must be submitted.
• Current unencumbered licensure as an RN in one of the United States, its territories or protectorates, and eligibility for Louisiana licensure. A Louisiana unencumbered license will be required before enrolling in any Nurse Anesthesia Specialty Track courses. A current unencumbered RN license in any state in which program-affiliated clinical sites are located may also be required before the second semester of study.
• Evidence of current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ACLS), and Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification will be required prior to beginning the clinical practicum. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification must be maintained throughout the program and for ninety days after graduation.
• A minimum of one year (at the time of application) of full-time, current experience as a Registered Professional Nurse in a critical care setting with demonstrated proficiency in managing critically ill patients, mechanical ventilation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive IV infusions, and aggressive fluid management. Preferred areas of critical care experience include: surgical ICU, cardiothoracic ICU, neurosurgical ICU, burn ICU, pediatric ICU, and medical ICU. Experience in the PACU, NICU and/or Emergency Department will not be considered.

Letters of Reference and Writing Sample
• Three current letters of recommendation from professional colleagues in a leadership position in the critical care setting. Recommendations from family, friends, or didactic instructors will not be considered.
• A Personal Statement (maximum of two pages) describing your career goals, your journey thus far, and why you would like to be accepted to the Loyola Nurse Anesthesia Program.

Faculty Interview

Selected applicants will be invited to participate in on-campus interviews, which will be scheduled during the spring. Candidates will also participate in a short assessment tool and knowledge evaluations during the interview process.

Supplementary Requirements

• Official transcripts of all previous college work
• CV/Resume, including specific dates of all critical care and other nursing experience, CRNA shadowing information, and extra-curricular activities/accomplishments
• Completed online application, uploading all additional required documents
• Application fee paid

International Applicants

In addition to the criteria and requirements above, you must submit an official review of your transcript by either World Education Services or CGFNS International, Inc., as well as your IELTS results.

Your scores must be current within two years of the semester you’re applying for, and you must have at minimum the following scores:

• Paper-based TOEFL: 550
• Computer-based TOEFL: 213

IBT internet-based TOEFL: 22 in writing, 23 in speaking, 21 in reading, and 17 in listening

The exceptions to waive English proficiency test are if the applicant:

• finished high school in the US
• has a degree from a US university or college
• provides SAT scores with a writing score of 550 or above
• is international, but from an English-speaking country

• $1,725 per credit hour ($5,175 per 3-credit course).

• Part-time (1-5 credit hrs per semester): $485 per semester

2. Universal Compliance Feeds: $34/year starting in the 1 st  semester + 1 time $150 fee
3.  Background Check: $65 to be completed in your first semester

5. RN Licensure: $100 every two years, dependent upon your renewal cycle

Miscellaneous

• Conference Fees. You are highly encouraged to attend at least one.
• AHA Certifications: The price for all three is approximately $350.00, timing depends on when you need to renew your certifications.

Financial Aid

Students enrolling in 6 or more credit hours per semester are eligible for federal student financial aid as well as private student loans. For further information about online student financial aid, please visit Loyola's Financial Aid page and the PLUS Loan program page.

U.S. students may be eligible for a Lifetime Learning Tax Credit. This tax credit was designed to help students acquire or improve job skills. Part-time students may apply. This is a tax credit equal to 20 percent of the first $5,000 of qualifying tuition paid or $1,000 maximum per family. Consult your tax advisor for complete details.
